Clear rates, stated up front. Every project starts with a conversation and an estimate, so you know what to expect before any work begins.

How it works

  1. Schedule a call.Tell us about the case, what you need, and your deadline. The first call is free.
  2. Send the materials and get an estimate.Share the pleadings, orders, record, or draft, and we'll confirm what we'll deliver, when you'll have it, and an estimate of the hours involved.
  3. We start the project. We research, analyze, and draft, and stay in touch as the work develops.
  4. Review and file. You review the draft, request revisions (if needed), and receive a signature-ready document with time built in before your deadline.

Hourly projects

Appellate briefs, motions, pleadings, discovery, legal research, and hearing, deposition, and mediation coverage are billed at the hourly rates above. Before any work begins, we give you an estimate of the hours the project will take.

What affects the estimate:

  • The type of document and its length
  • The size of the record or file
  • The complexity of the issues and the depth of research needed
  • How much drafting you need from us, versus review of your own draft
  • For coverage: the type of hearing or deposition, preparation, and travel

Payment

Trial-level work: We keep a card on file and charge it when your project is complete. You will always have time to review your invoice before the project is charged.

Appeals: An initial deposit of $2,750 is due before work begins, with the balance due on completion.

What’s included

  • No charge for Westlaw or other research databases
  • No charge for phone calls under 10 minutes. Longer calls are billed at your project’s hourly rate.
  • No charge for routine emails. But emails that involve substantive work are billed at the hourly rate.

Monthly package

If your firm has steady research and writing needs, commit to 20 hours a month, about 5 hours a week, and receive:

  • A discounted hourly rate on all package work
  • Priority scheduling on your projects

Ask about the monthly package on your first call.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a charge for the first call?

No. The first call is always free.

Is hiring Eximius worth the cost?

For most solo and small firms, yes. You pay only for the hours your project actually takes: no salary, benefits, recruiting, training, or downtime. And because our work can typically be billed to your client at a higher rate than it costs you, outsourcing research and writing can increase your firm’s revenue while freeing your time for the work only you can do.

Do you offer a discount for regular work?

Yes. If your firm sends us work every month, our monthly package gives you a lower hourly rate. You commit to 20 hours per month (about 5 hours a week), and every hour of work that month is billed at the discounted rate, including any hours beyond the 20. Package clients also get priority scheduling, so their projects move to the front of our queue. Packages run on a monthly cycle. Ask about it on your first call.

What if the project takes longer than estimated?

We'll tell you before we go beyond the estimate. If the scope changes, for example if additional issues surface or the record is larger than expected, we'll discuss it with you before doing additional work.

Are revisions included?

Revisions are not included in the initial estimate. They're billed at the same hourly rate, and we'll let you know the expected time before we make them.

What is your turnaround time?

Our normal turnaround is 5 business days, but this always depends on our workload. We will let you know upfront what the delivery time will be.

Can you work with a tight deadline?

Yes. Tell us your deadline on the first call. If meeting it requires us to rearrange our schedule, a priority rate of an additional $50 per hour applies (appeals are quoted case by case), and we'll tell you before we accept the project. If we can meet your deadline within our normal schedule, there's no extra charge.

Do you work with attorneys outside Florida?

Yes. We support attorneys in federal court and other states.

How do you check for conflicts?

Before every engagement, we ask for the names of all parties and check them against our current and past matters. If there's a conflict, we tell you right away.

How do you keep my client’s information confidential?

Your case is handled only by our team or licensed lawyers and paralegals. Everything you share stays with us and is used only for your matter.

Can I bill my client for your work?

Yes. Many attorneys bill our work to their clients, often at a higher rate than they pay us. ABA Formal Opinion 08-451 addresses billing for outsourced legal work. Review the rules that apply in your jurisdiction.

Do you work directly with clients or self-represented parties?

No. We work only with attorneys, who remain counsel of record. When an attorney asks us to communicate with their client on a matter, we can, and that time is billed at the hourly rate.
